Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a national-level scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology to provide scholarship to meritorious students up to pre-PhD level. The exam is conducted every year by the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The scholarship program offered by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and run by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore helps students to pursue a progressive research career in the Science stream. The key objective of the KVPY program is to identify as well as encourage motivated and talented students to pursue a research career. The scholarship scheme is available for the student studying in class 11 to the first year of undergraduate studies in Basic Sciences.

eligibility criteria

Candidates can apply after reading the complete eligibility criteria for appearing in the exam:

  • Nationality: Applying candidates must be an Indian national citizen.

Stream SA:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates those appearing in 11th class or passed the 10th class with Science and Mathematics subject can apply.
  • Minimum Marks: It is compulsory to secure the 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in the qualifying exam.

Stream SB:

  • Qualifying Exam: Appearing in the 1st year of UG program in Basic Sciences such as Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S
  • Minimum Marks: Secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in mathematics and science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in 12th standard. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. one should secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship.

Stream SX:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates appearing in 10+2 exam with science stream from a recognized board.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates must obtain the 75% marks in 10th class (65% for reserved category candidates) with mathematics and science (PCB) subjects. Minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) in mathematics and science subjects (PCB) in 12th class.

 In order to apply for KVPY 2019, it is essential for you to know the steps to fill the application form. We get you the steps to abide by while filling the KVPY application form:

  • – 2nd Step: Click on the link given for KVPY Registration.
  • – 3rd Step: Fill in your Personal detailsMobile NumberEmail IdDate of Birth and Enter the Captcha.
  • – 4th Step: Now, log in to fill the application form using the User Id and Passwordyou received on your mail or mobile number.
  • – 5th Step: Enter your “Personal”, “Educational”, and “Residential” details.
  • – 6th Step: Upload your scanned “Photograph” and “Signature.”
  • – 7th Step: Now, proceed to pay the application fee.
  • – 8th Step: Submit the KVPY application form by clicking on the “Submit” button.
  • – 9th Step: Download the application form and take its print out for future reference.

The KVPY exam pattern details are given below:

  • Mode: The exam will be conducted through online mode only.
  • Language: The exam will be conducted in both English and Hindi language.
  • Types of Questions: Multiple choice questions will be asked in the exam.
  • Attempts: All questions are compulsory to attempt in Stream SA. There is an option to attempt any three sections in PART I & any two sections in PART II in Stream SB/SX.
  • Duration: 3 hours will be provided to complete the exam.
  • Maximum Marks: The complete exam will be of 100 marks.

APPLICATION FEES

  • The application fee is Rs. 1000 for general candidates and Rs. 500 for SC/ST/PWD category candidates.
  • The registration fee can be deposited through two modes, i.e. online (credit card/debit card/ internet banking) and offline mode (e-Challan).

PREPARATION TIPS

  • Make a smart strategy to solve the questions in minimum time period.
  • Study daily till the exam day as per the prepared time schedule.
  • Go through the complete syllabus to do well in the exam.
  • Be aware of the exam pattern and marking schemes.
  • Make yourself healthy and do some yoga or meditation.

The Fellow continues to study Basic Science courses in school/junior college/university, and maintains a minimum level of academic performance of first class or 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate or equivalent grade points and the students have to necessarily pass all the subjects prescribed for that particular academic year (two semesters in case of semester system) and should have obtained the above-specified percentage of marks.
